House Lifting

◿ House Lifting

Firstly, lets understand the difference between House Lifting and house leveling. Leveling is the process we use attempting to restore a foundation to its original constructed elevation through out the whole building. All foundation types can be leveled. House lifting is used when it is necessary to lift an entire building to a new and higher elevation. Not all foundation types are suited for lifting, buildings with concrete slab foundations cannot be lifted but those with crawl space and basement foundations can. At Wells Capital Foundation Experts we often encounter older homes with crawl spaces just inches off the ground, making repairs difficult or impossible. When foundation support fails we offer options: digging out the crawl space, separating the building from its foundation to lift it for repairs, and accessing the supports from inside the building are considerations. Lifting temporarily or permanently can also be used to replace a damaged perimeter wall of a building. Lifting a house can become advantageous if clearance from a flood zone is desired. Lifting can also add square footage to your home by adding a basement area that formally didn’t exist. Our expert team assesses the most economical solution during our free foundation inspection.

◿ Thoughts and Considerations

House lifting involves temporarily disconnecting utilities like electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and gas, as well as potentially separating structures like decks or porches. Safety is paramount, as professionals we have the experience, manpower, and equipment necessary for a precise and safe process. With careful planning and execution, structural damage is minimal or non-existent. We employ heavy-duty equipment like house jacks, wood beam cribbing, and steel support beams to ensure the job is done efficiently and safely. It is important to take the lift process slowly allowing time for the building to settle between lifts.
